We have so many great doctors and staff here at Cummings Veterinary Hospital, and we think it's so important to share what we know with others. From high school through veterinary school, there is a place here for you to learn and grow in veterinary medicine. Opportunities are listed below. While unpaid, they provide exceptional experience to anyone interested in the veterinary field.
Job Shadow: We allow high school students from 11th grade on up to shadow our doctors on daily rounds and appointments. Generally, these visits are 2-3 hours in length, and the total amount will depend on the desires of the student and doctor availability. The observation is priceless and the doctors appreciate the enthusiasm these young students bring to the day.
Veterinary Technician Students: Veterinary Technician students may request to conduct their required externship hours here at Cummings Veterinary Hospital. Times will vary based on the program requirements. The student will spend their hours observing all manner of veterinary activity, as well as participating in patient care when appropriate. We frequently host students from Northampton Community College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, and Penn Foster College.
Veterinary Student Clinical Rotation: Veterinary school students may request to perform their clinical rotation here, and will have the opportunity to work with, and learn from, seven veterinarians in all facets of companion animal care. Our veterinarians come with diverse and deep experience and students will be included in examinations, diagnostics, surgery, ultrasound, x-ray, and more on a daily basis. This is an outstanding opportunity to practice in a progressive clinic with state of the art equipment.
